The Festival

Edinburgh’s well-loved Craft Beer Experience returns to the city once again, from the 31st October to the 2nd November, over five sessions. The team behind the Craft Beer Experience want you to drink good beer — so, an expertly curated selection of local and international breweries will be showcasing some of their best beers, in a three-day festival which will delight everyone from craft beer novices to seasoned connoisseurs.

Taking up the Assembly Roxy’s impressive three floors, the Craft Beer Experience will be a truly immersive beer event, with more than 20 breweries, local street food vendors and Scottish distillers in attendance, plus a fantastic lineup of masterclasses and beer & food pairings which are all free to attend with a valid ticket.

In celebration of Scotland’s rich brewing history and quality produce, the Assembly Roxy’s Main Hall will be host to 13 fantastic Scottish breweries, and street food from three of the region’s most acclaimed vendors to sate your appetite. For those not keen on beer or those looking to try something different, there will also be a cocktail bar serving up some delicious concoctions made with Scottish spirits.

Downstairs in the cosy Snug Bar, a collection of EU breweries (brought over to Edinburgh in partnership with Beer Without Borders, just in time for Brexit…!) will be pouring delicious ales and craft beers, and up the stone staircase, the Upper Theatre room will feature some very unique one-off collaboration beers brought by Flavourly.

The Beers

At the Craft Beer Experience you’ll have access to some of the best beers around — you’ll have the opportunity to try some much-hyped new brews, taste core range beers and classic styles, and sample some things that might be new to you.

Over the beautiful Assembly Roxy’s three floors there will be a Scottish breweries showcase, a European breweries tap takeover, and an assortment of some delicious one-off collaborations beers. Below is a selection of the breweries pouring at the festival.

This year will also see the return of the Replicale contest, which proved popular with guests and breweries alike last year. In this contest, a selection of the Scottish breweries exhibiting in the Main Hall have the challenge of making a beer of the same style exclusively to pour at the festival, but the specifications for what ingredients go in the beer are left up to the brewers themselves. All the entries are judged by a panel of local experts, and the winning beer gets a trophy (and bragging rights!).

The Non-Beers

We want to open Craft Beer Experience up to anyone interested in tasting new beers and discovering more about this unique drink. However we know you might also like a tasty cocktail or a cheeky cider between the beers!

The Food

Scotland’s capital is home to some of the best street food in the UK, with many winning awards for their offerings. We have rounded up three of the greatest local vendors who create mouthwatering dishes made with the best Scottish produce, to satisfy even the hungriest beer drinker’s appetite.

Entertainment / Masterclasses

Each of the three rooms at the Craft Beer Festival will have its own vibe, with the Snug Bar dedicated to European culture, and The Upper Theater hosting pub games and classic UK beers. Music in The Main Hall comes courtesy of local DJs.

There will also be a packed programme of events taking place during each of the five sessions, which are all free to attend with a valid ticket. The programme boasts classes such as Meet the Brewers, Introduction to certain beer styles, Homebrewing 101, and beer and food pairings — of course, the tasters sampled during the classes are free as well!

The Replicale project

This year will also see the return of the Replicale contest, which proved popular with guests and breweries alike last year. In this contest, a selection of the Scottish breweries exhibiting in the Main Hall have the challenge of making a beer of the same style exclusively to pour at the festival, but the specifications for what ingredients go in the beer are left up to the brewers themselves. All the entries are judged by a panel of local experts, and the winning beer gets a trophy (and bragging rights!).

You will have the opportunity to taste one-off beers brewed specially for the Edinburgh Craft Beer Experience festival.

The Venue

Assembly Roxy is a unique venue situated in the heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town. The historic former church building houses three main spaces each charming in its own way. The Main Hall which will be dedicated to the best of Scottish food & drinks is a truly unique and beautiful space, with many original features and a stage.
